What do the painted lines in front of the fire house mean?

By Liberty Steam Fire Engine Company No.1
April 21, 2026

As you may have seen on social media, your Liberty Steam Fire Engine Company No.1 (LFC) underwent some station updating. These updates were only possible with the cooperation between the Borough and the LFC. These updates not only make the appearance of our station look nicer, but also allows up to provide a timely service to you.

One of those updates were the lines painted on the street immediately in front of our apparatus bays. These lines mark an area where vehicles should not enter when a firetruck or ambulance is entering or leaving a garage. The violation of this is not only an appearance thing, but is also listed in the vehicle code that all drivers must adhere to. Below is the section of the PA Vehicle code that pertains to this:

§ 3346. Emergency vehicles entering or leaving official garage.

If an emergency vehicle is leaving or returning to its garage and the emergency lights of the emergency vehicle are engaged, the driver of an approaching vehicle shall stop and give the emergency vehicle the right-of-way to leave or enter the garage and may not proceed until the emergency vehicle is safely out of the driver's path.
(Dec. 21, 1998, P.L.1126, No.151, eff. 60 days)

1998 Amendment. Act 151 added section 3346.

There is also no parking in front of the apparatus bay doors at any time. Over the last month, there have been several instances of cars parking where our apparatus leaves or enters our garage area. These instances have all occurred during an emergency response and caused delays in allowing us to provide a valuable service.

We thank you for your understanding and support.
